Some General Comments about GoldBox
GoldBox is a large set of utilities created by Redstone Softbase Company, now
owned by Ticomix, Inc. Its purpose is to extend the capabilities of the CRM/
Contact Management program GoldMine, by FrontRange Solutions, Inc. My work
generally involves applying GoldBox to GoldMine.
One important thing to remember about GoldBox is this: everything in it was
added because GoldMine couldn't do something that GoldMine users
needed to do. GoldBox originated in the early 1990's as the very first add-on for
GoldMine, to satisfy such needs.
In many cases, GoldMine later added functionality that is similar to something
GoldBox originated. When GoldMine's addition makes GoldBox's programming
unnecessary, that specific programming is dropped from GoldBox. Often, though,
GoldBox's functionality remains superior to what GoldMine has added, so the
programming is left in GoldBox . Bottom line: GoldBox generally surpasses
GoldMine's comparable functionality, often by wide margins.
GoldBox deals directly with GoldMine's data; that is, it does not need to go
through the API (except to fetch new RECIDs). This means that GoldBox can
remain remarkably consistent over the years; nearly everything that GoldBox could
do 10 years ago (for much earlier GoldMine versions), it can still do today, for the
latest versions. Yes, GoldBox does issue new versions when necessary (always
including much new functionality); but the average as-current lifespan of most
GoldBox versions has been well over 5 years. Within the same version number,
updates are always free, with no maintenance charges.
One of GoldBox's important advantages is automation. Many operations that are
Wizard-driven with GoldMine--like Group Building, Import, Export, Global
Replace--can be fully automated with GoldBox, running after hours or whenever it's
convenient. Combined, GoldMine and GoldBox can give you a CRM system that
is extraordinarily powerful and flexible. Another important advantage: GoldBox
