GoldBox Views
The example below illustrates some of the special capabilities of GoldBox Views. Click on the thumbnail to
see the View. The text describes some of the View's more notable features.
Data Cleaning View Set

If a View set can be fun, then this would be the one! It will find records where a field has
non-valid data (i.e., isn't in your Lookup List). Then, it gives you the option to change all
that data to the same valid entry with just a couple of clicks. OR, it will show you those
non-valid entries one at a time, and let you change each one using your GoldMine
Lookup List for the field. I'm furnishing this View with 11 Contact1 fields. You can have up
to 20 fields in the Views, and changing which fields show in the Views is fairly easy.
Easy to construct and modify, my Data Cleaning Views use a number of GoldBox exclusives:

  • QBE View Set -- Query-By-Entry Views are probably the easiest way possible to use SQL queries. With
data cleaning, a special query finds only the GoldMine records that have a non-valid entry in a selected
field. The list of records is compiled based on an OTF Lookup List selection in the Source View (pink,
above); and the records themselves are returned in the Result View (blue, above).

  • OTF Lookups -- In the pink View above, the left side Lookup List is an On-The-Fly List, meaning that it
is populated when it is clicked. In the moment that it takes to open, a SQL query is run. That query
finds ONLY the non-valid entries in GoldMine for that field; and that's all that's displayed to the User.
So, the User works with the Lookup, making corrections, until the Lookup no longer finds anything to
    display.

  • One-to-Many PushField "projection" of data from one View to another -- The right hand field in the
bottom View is populated from the actual GoldMine Lookup List for the field, if desired (i.e., its use is
optional). If used, whatever is entered into it will appear on the right side for ALL the records in the top
View, when it opens. Then, when the top View is posted, that value will become the new value for all
the GoldMine records that had the non-valid entry that is being corrected. BUT, if you prefer to look at
each record in the top View and correct them one-by-one, you can do that; just leave the right side field
in the pink View empty when you press the Display RESULT button in the bottom View.
