GoldBox Views
The example below illustrates some of the special capabilities of GoldBox Views. Click on the thumbnail
to see the View. The text describes some of the View's more notable features.
Tri-level drill down, GoldMine to Outside Database. I'm using Microsoft's
Northwind/Access database to demonstrate this capability.
Click the thumbnail to see the three Views, opened over my GoldMine record.
The link to Northwind is via Key5, labeled NW Link. In essence, the word
ANTON is the Northwind unique ID (account number) for my record. So,
whenever I click on a particular Taskbar button (not shown) to open the
Northwind Views, the bottom View opens, showing all the Orders for me (i.e.
for ANTON) that exist in Northwind.
Next, the middle View opens, showing the Order Details for the Order number that is indicated in the first
View. Finally, the Product View opens, showing the specific Product that is indicated in the Order Details
View. Note: when you change the pointer in a lower View, you do need to mouse-click on each higher View in
order for the higher View(s) to update. Most people find this to be a very minor drawback.
Although this particular demonstration setup does not provide for editing the Access data from the GoldBox
Views, that can be done (a Post operation is involved). As for initially populating GoldMine with the link value
to the outside database, this could be done rather easily, using a GoldBox Import/Update to GoldMine from
the outside database's Customer table (not shown). In fact, GoldBox's "Smooth" matching functions can
simplify this assignment.
Because each View set is independent of other View sets, it's possible to relate GoldMine to any number of
outside ODBC databases, in different ways for each, using different View sets.
